DIY Carpet Installation

The biggest problem with buying a carpet online is finding someone to professionally fit it for you.

Not many local carpet shops will offer a fitting only service, and most freelance fitters will be fully booked by these retailers.

Good carpet and floor-layers are hard to come by.

It’s also worth mentioning that when you view a carpet online, often the images used to represent the carpets aren’t doing the them justice; sometimes you simply need to physically touch the product and see it with your own eyes.

So it’s not uncommon for someone to want to tackle the job themselves.

We would strongly advise against this, as it’s not just a case of whipping out your Stanley knife and hammering in some nails.
There are specialist tools and required experience that go into carpet installation, that could otherwise result in a very botched job.

In fact, we’ve seen a DIY carpet job that used 4 inch nails that almost hit the plumbing!

Carpets and other flooring installation isn’t the easiest DIY job, as a small mistake could ruin the whole piece; therefore, (in our opinion at least!) you will always find the best deals and service from the smaller carpet retailers.

All of that being said, if you’re on a tight budget and are looking for a cheap option for a DIY carpet, then we would recommend using a felt-back carpet with no underlay as a cost effective, and easier option.
